Garland K. Gudger, M.D.

 

Garland K. Gudger, MD, graduated from LaGrange College and earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Greenville General Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina, and at Shriners Hospital where he trained in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.

Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Gudger holds memberships with many professional societies including the American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, Southern Orthopaedic Association, Southern Medical Association, and the Muscogee County Medical Society.

In 1990, he received from the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation the Order of Merit for distinguished philanthropy in the advancement of orthopedic surgery. At The Hughston Orthopedic Hospital, Dr. Gudger has served as Chief of Surgery Services and Chief of Staff. Recently, he was inducted into the LaGrange College Athletic Hall of Fame.

His clinical interests and specialties include sports medicine and general orthopaedic surgery which includes special interest in total knee replacement and wrist fractures. He served as a principal investigator for a multi center study for evaluation of the use of colloidal injections (Synvisc) in knees and hips. Dr. Gudger continues academic research in sports medicine at The Hughston Foundation, Inc. and The Hughston Clinic, P.C.
