The Hughston Health Alert is a quarterly newsletter published by the The Hughston Foundation, Inc. In publication since 1989, the Hughston Health Alert presents information on musculoskeletal health and fitness for all ages. Among the topics presented to readers are nutrition and bone health, the diabetic foot, preventing hip fractures, shin splints, blood-borne infections in athletes, sacroiliac joint dysfunction in athletes, weight training for children and adolescents, and living with arthritis. Information in the Hughston Health Alert is intended to supplement the advice of your personal physician and should not be relied upon for the treatment of an individual’s specific medical problems. To produce each issue, our editorial board employs the experience and training of physicians at The Hughston Clinic, P.C., physical therapists at Hughston Rehabilitation, physicians who train as residents and fellows under the auspices of The Hughston Clinic, P. C., and other medical professionals in the community. The articles, written by medical professionals and edited by a medical writer, carefully explain medical treatments, rehabilitation techniques and methods to help prevent injury. Additionally, the articles contain medical artwork, photographs, and other images produced by master illustrators to help the reader understand the concept or medical technique being discussed. The Hughston Health Alert is used as an educational tool for patients and as an aid for athletic trainers, coaches, physicians, teachers, and others who explain musculoskeletal issues to a lay audience.
