Hughston
Clinic opens new clinic in
Dothan
Dothan,
AL (January 29, 2009) The
Hughston Clinic, a
renowned and respected
orthopaedic practice based
in Columbus, GA,
opened a satellite
clinic in Dothan, Ala., on
Jan. 5.
Nine
orthopaedic physicians are
serving the Dothan office,
located at 348 Healthwest
Dr. The medical group is
initially leasing office
space, but plans to build a
new facility in 2010, if
expectations of robust
patient activity are
confirmed. The Hughston
Clinic treated more than 500
patients in January at its
Dothan office.
Dothan
has been the fastest ramp up
of any satellite clinic that
weve ever opened, said John
I. Waldrop, M.D., president
of the Hughston Clinic. The
response has been
outstanding. Patients are
excited that we are in town.
They no longer have to drive
to Columbus.
For
many years, the Hughston
Clinic has attracted
patients from the Dothan
area and the Florida
panhandle, said Carlton
Savory, M.D., orthopaedic
surgeon and partner at the
Hughston Clinic.
The
Hughston Clinic footprint
stretches throughout the
Southeast, said Dr. Savory.
Roughly 80 percent of our
patients come from outside
of Columbus, Ga. Dothan,
Alabama and the surrounding
communities have always been
a great source for patients.
We are delighted to open a
clinic in Dothan and move
closer to our patients in
the region.
The
Hughston Clinic is a
multi-specialty orthopaedic
clinic with 19 physicians
serving nine offices in
Alabama and Georgia. The
clinics specialties include
surgery of the knee,
shoulder, spine, elbow, foot
and ankle, hand and upper
extremities, joint
replacement, sports medicine
and arthroscopy. Hughston
also provides complete
rehabilitation services such
as physical therapy and
occupational therapy.
The
nine Hughston Clinic
physicians serving Dothan
are:
Champ L. Baker Jr., MD, FACS
J. Kenneth Burkus, MD
Patrick J. Fernicola, MD
Fred Flandry, MD, FACS
Garland K. Gudger, MD
James E. McGrory, MD
Douglas W. Pahl, MD
Carlton G. Savory, MD, FACS
John I. Waldrop, M.D.
A
full-time practice
assistant, Jennifer
Blackmon, was hired to run
the Dothan clinic. The
orthopaedic group expects to
soon hire a physical
therapist and an X-ray
technician to work in the
Dothan office.
Bucking
the economic trend of the
times, the Hughston Clinic
is in a growth mode. In June
2008, the Clinic opened a
new $2.5 million,
15,000-square-foot facility
in Valdosta, Ga. In February
2008, the physicians at the
Hughston Clinic acquired a
62-bed hospital in Phenix
City, Ala., for $47.7
million and renamed it Jack
Hughston Memorial Hospital.
Orthopaedics
in general is a growth
industry. Statistics show
that as the population ages
and as Baby Boomers get
older, the number of people
needing orthopaedic care
will continue to grow.
