Champ Baker Jr., MD, Scholarship

The Hughston Foundation is proud to honor the legacy and tradition that Champ L. Baker, Jr., MD, continues to build in orthopaedics, sports medicine, and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Baker’s passion for sports medicine spans nearly 4 decades, and during those years he created his legacy as a dedicated educator, author, researcher, physician, and surgeon. His devotion to teach and share his experience and knowledge with athletic trainers is built on the traditions he learned from his mentor, and later, his partner, Jack C. Hughston, MD. His years on the field as team physician—for high school, college-level, Olympic, and professional sports—has earned him the titles of “Mr. Sports Medicine,”  “Physician of the Year,” and “mentor”.

Jim Madaleno, MS, ATC, Undergraduate Scholarship in Athletic Training

The Hughston Foundation is proud to honor the legacy and tradition that Madaleno continues to build with student athletes and student athletic trainers. It is a privilege to sponsor this scholarship for deserving undergraduate athletic students—those who display the drive and determination that allowed Madaleno to work in multiple settings from professional sports, collegiate athletics, and clinic administration. A consummate professional and educator, Jim Madaleno’s path continues to be the benchmark that young athletic trainers should aspire to achieve.
