Supporting Local Events
The Hughston Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of our citizens and proud to support events that make the Chattahoochee Valley a great place to live. We support local events, particularly when we can provide medical coverage or services to protect and enhance the community’s health and welfare.
Hughston Sponsors Signing Day 2011 in Auburn
Some 30 high school athletes from east Alabama and the Columbus area attended National Signing Day on February 4, 2011 at the offices of the Opelika-Auburn News. The Hughston Clinic sponsored this special event. Hughston’s Dr. Champ L. Baker, Jr., was on hand to encourage and congratulate the athletes, all of whom accepted college scholarships to compete in their respective sports.
Each athlete was introduced and then publically signed to play college athletics. Most athletes had family members and coaches with them to share this landmark event. Sponsoring a significant event like National Signing Day is a great opportunity to be a part of the celebration of their hard work and success.
Bi-City Athlete Awards hosted by Hughston
The Hughston Foundation hosted the 2009-2010 Celebration of Sports Excellence Awards, an annual ceremony that honors the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer’s All-Bi-City Athletes and Coaches of the Year.
Some 45 high school athletes and coaches received awards at the special event. An audience of more than 150 people packed the Hughston Foundation auditorium to be a part of the event. Dr. Champ L. Baker, Jr. served as the emcee for the evening.
The Hughston Foundation and Hughston Clinic are committed to supporting sports in our communities and are proud to have played a part in recognizing Chattahoochee Valley’s best high school athletes and coaches.
Hughston flies with Honor Flight again
The Hughston Clinic and Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital continue to be the official medical provider for West Georgia Honor Flight, the organization responsible for flying World War II veterans to Washington to visit the National World War II memorial.
The inaugural flight was in September 2009. Two more flights took place in April.
“We will continue to support the Honor Flight as long as it is around,” said Dr. Carl Savory, chairman of the Hughston medical team. “This is a great service to honor our local men and women who served in World War II.”
Second Annual High School Football Awards
In December, the Hughston Foundation cosponsored the Columbus Valley Area High School Football Awards luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn in Columbus. Fifty high school football players and 20 football coaches from high schools in the west Georgia and east Alabama region were honored.
The Hughston Clinic Offensive Player of the Year Award recipient was Isaiah Crowell from Carver High School in Columbus for the second year in a row. On behalf of Hughston Clinic, Mark Baker, CEO, presented the award. The banquet was organized by Sportsvision on Fox 54 and In the Game High School Sports Magazine.
