Hughston Society Members returned home April 9th for the 3-day 2015 Hughston Society Biennial Meeting. The homecoming included an educational program reviewing sports medicine, rehabilitation, and trauma. Participants received 14 AMA Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit(s)TM for attending the educational event.
During the program, Presidential Guest Speaker John M. Tokish, MD, FAAOS, presented the lectures, “Anterior Shoulder Instability” and “The Aging Athlete,” and at the end of the meeting gave a special presentation, “Data Collection and Research Networks.”
John M. Henderson, Sr., DO, delivered the Stephen Hunter Memorial Lecture, “How to be a Doctor on the Sideline” and Champ L. Baker Jr., MD, delivered The Hughston Legacy Lecture, “Things I Learned.” Additionally, Reinhold D. Schmieding made a special presentation, “Technology Changes Everything in Orthopaedics.” John E. Turba, MD, gave a talk entitled, “The Hughston Acute Extra-articular Repair of the ACL/ALRI,” after which he and Fred Flandry, MD, toasted the late Jack C. Hughston, MD, and Mrs. Hughston for their devotion to medical research, education, and treatment.
In the Leadership and Education forum moderated by Robert M. Shalvoy, MD, the Hughston Sports Medicine Fellows presented their research projects and Dr. Shalvoy summed up the meeting, thanking the 38 panelists and speakers who participated in the event.
After hours, members enjoyed mojitos and Macanudos in the Sarah and Jack Hughston Garden and Society President Robert M. Shalvoy, MD, hosted a welcome reception amid wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. The social festivities also included a night at the National Infantry Museum and BBQ and Bluegrass on the lawn.
