Hughston Foundation Sports Medicine Program

Dr. Jack Hughston developed the Hughston Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1960 as a way to further the education of physicians in the area of orthopaedic sports medicine and in over 50 years the Hughston Foundation has trained more than 400 residents and national and international fellows. The Hughston Foundation Fellowship was the first training venue of its kind and has continued to lead the way in sports medicine education.

The program is grounded in basic science, anatomy, physical diagnosis, imaging interpretation, deductive reasoning as it relates to surgical indications, refinement of surgical technical skills and comprehensive rehabilitation protocols. The program also seeks to define the way sports medicine specialists interface with the athletic program. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has accredited the program for five fellowship positions.
The program supports a full-time fellowship coordinator who handles the credentialing of the fellows and coordinates their training and activities with the Fellowship Committee.
