“Dr. Donati is very knowledgeable, professional, and a great surgeon.” -M.R.

Norman L. Donati Jr., MD, primarily serves the Thomaston, GA, clinic and also the Columbus and Macon offices. He is a native of Memphis, TN, and graduated with honors from Memphis State University. Dr. Donati received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1981. His orthopaedic surgery training and specialty fellowship in foot and ankle were both completed at the University of Tennessee and Campbell Foundation in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Donati initially began his orthopaedic surgery career in the Orlando-Central Florida area. While there, he was either team physician or associate team physician for the NBA Orlando Magic, the Orlando Solar Bears hockey team, Orlando Cubs AA baseball team, University of Central Florida, Rollins College, the Orlando Predators Indoor football team, and Stetson University. He was also involved with Orlando’s performers and workers at Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. He was especially involved with the Sea World water ski team.

In 1996, Dr. Donati relocated his practice to Georgia, and has practiced there ever since. With his many years of experience, he treats a broad range of orthopaedic problems and has extensive experience performing joint replacement procedures of the shoulder, hip and knee (partial or full), and foot. Most of his hip joint replacements are done through the new less invasive direct superior approach. These replacement surgeries can be safely performed as out-patient or in-patient procedures.

During his tenure in Thomaston, Dr. Donati has worked with the local high school teams from Upson, Pike, Lamar, and Taylor counties. He has also served as orthopaedic consultant on the sports medicine advisory committee of the Georgia High School Association. Dr. Donati has provided orthopaedic care to Children’s Medical Services for special needs children in the Central Georgia area. He provides surgical services for his patients at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, AL, Piedmont Northside Medical Center, and Hughston Surgical Center.

Dr. Donati’s extensive sports medicine experience allows him to regularly perform arthroscopic shoulder, knee, and ankle procedures, as well as small incision and percutaneous treatment for all types of tendon and ligament pain that only requires local anesthesia with Novocain. He has been performing stem cell injections for many years, utilizing blood, bone marrow, and adipose (fat) derived techniques. Due to his specialty training in foot and ankle, he is uniquely qualified to treat complex, new or old, problems of the foot and ankle, and complications of prior surgeries.

Dr. Donati is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, and The Medical Association of Georgia. He has been a presenter and instructor at numerous foot and ankle meetings during his career.
